SUMMER 2021 HIGHLIGHTS

As we are starting the new school year, we wanted to take a look back at our fun-filled, in-person summer programming! Among other programs, Bronx Lacrosse student-athletes celebrated the end of a challenging school year, participated in Summer Academy, and explored the Adirondacks. We also welcomed new faces to our team! Read below for exciting highlights from our past summer.

SUMMER ACADEMY SUCCESSES

Bronx Lacrosse’s summer programming was a big success thanks to our Summer Academy! For four weeks through the month of July, 115 student-athletes participated in team building socio-emotional development activities, had stimulating conversations in book clubs, and improved their lacrosse skills with daily practices.

Back to Adirondack Camp

The highlight of our summer was our return to our annual trip to the Adirondacks. More than 50 student-athletes travelled up to Camp Echo Lake, and were exposed to experiences not readily available in the Bronx. We swam in the lake and pool, explored the sky-high ropes course, and made s’mores at the bonfire while we strengthened our friendships with our teammates.

HIGH SCHOOL ACCEPTANCES

We are proud to announce that all of our 8th graders graduated middle school on time and are matriculating to high school. 76% of our rising freshmen are enrolled in schools with a 4-year graduation rate of 80% or higher and 48% of students are enrolling in schools with 90% or higher graduation rates.

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION

After a challenging but successful school year, we were finally able to celebrate with our student-athletes and their families. Students received awards for high rates of program attendance at lacrosse practices and tutoring sessions. We also recognized six students with the Commitment to Excellence Award for their outstanding work in the program.

NEW STAFF

We have new faces on our staff! We are excited to welcome our new Chief Program Officer, Chrissy Young, who brings a wealth of experience in the education and youth development fields. In addition, we welcome three new Program Directors: Julie Krupnick, Brianna McCaffrey, and Malik Talbert. Their passion for the sport of lacrosse, as well as their strong and diverse educational backgrounds and talents will greatly benefit our team!
