Bronx Lacrosse receives a Heckscher Foundation Grant

Bronx, NY - March 18, 2021 - Bronx Lacrosse is thrilled to have received a $50,000 grant from the Heckscher Foundation for Children to support its Algebra Readiness Program. This impactful program ensures that the students of Bronx Lacrosse gain the most essential mathematical skills, procedures, and concepts, to help them excel in high school and beyond. Bringing The Algebra Readiness Program to Bronx Lacrosse’s student athletes is an incredible opportunity to enhance our curriculum and provide a vital resource to Bronx Lacrosse’s tutor corps and Bronx Lacrosse full-time staff.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for this grant from the Heckscher Foundation, as we know the real impact it can make,” said Dan Leventhal, Founder and President of Bronx Lacrosse. “We have identified math as a key academic subject area where we feel our staff and tutors corps can make the most positive impact with our young students.”  

This Algebra Readiness Program is being designed for Bronx Lacrosse by Dr. Phil Dituri, a math consultant and the Director of Education at the Financial Life Cycle Education. The success and impact of the program will be measured through assessments and student course grades in mathematics.  

The planned launch date for Bronx Lacrosse’s Algebra Readiness Program is September 2021.

About Bronx Lacrosse

Bronx Lacrosse is a full-day, year-round academic- and sports-based youth development program. We use lacrosse as a vehicle to build community, invest students in school, develop executive function and self-regulation skills, and improve academic outcomes. Along with lacrosse programming, we support our student-athletes by providing homework help; tutoring; mentoring; math intervention; attendance, academic, and behavioral monitoring and intervention; and social-emotional skill-building. Bronx Lacrosse is currently partnered with three public schools and serves over 150 students.
