Bronx Lacrosse Fall 2022 Recap

As we head into Thanksgiving, please check out the highlights of our recent action packed fall programming below!

Fall ULAX High School Champions

The year is off to an incredible start for our high school boys! They competed in the ULAX NYC High School Fall Ball League and won the league championship in an overtime thriller. We are so excited to see all of their hard work and commitment pay off this spring!

Program Expansion

Bronx Lacrosse is reaching more students than ever before. In September, we launched partnerships with two new middle schools and now have six middle school teams - three girls and three boys teams. We also launched an official partnership with Cardinal Hayes, where Director of Lacrosse Dwayne Stewart leads the varsity lacrosse program. These developments have brought 80 new participants into the program, bringing our total enrollment to 240.

Launched College Inquiry Program

Bronx Lacrosse high school students now benefit from formalized college access services through our partnership with College Access: Research and Action - a leader in facilitating college access among first-generation college students, students of low socio-economic status, and students of color. Facilitated by Bronx Lacrosse staff, this program will provide game-changing support to our high school participants on the path to college.

Enrichment Experiences

Bronx Lacrosse continues to enrich young people’s lives off the field. Recently, 40 students traveled to Manhattan to see Wicked on Broadway. Students were invited to a pre-show event with food, witches hats, tiaras, and photo opportunities and enjoyed mingling with other Bronx Lacrosse participants. For many, this was their first Broadway experience, and it was enjoyed by all who attended.

Elite Lacrosse Experiences

This fall, students have had more high-level lacrosse experiences than ever before to prepare for a great spring season. Lacrosse all-star Chris Gray and the PLL led a clinic and students received customized Bronx Lacrosse gear from Champion and Gatorade. We also hosted our first ever Bronx Lacrosse Day, where our middle school teams scrimmaged against each other to gain game experience. Our boys have been lucky enough to work with the St. John’s men’s lacrosse team several times this fall and our girls also had a wonderful clinic with the Manhattan College Women’s team. Bronx lacrosse athletes love learning from the best players and coaches in the sport!

Fall Benefit Success

We are excited to share that our Annual Fall Benefit at the Apawamis Club was a success! We are overwhelmed by the support we have received and happy to report that over 200 guests attended the event and we surpassed our fundraising goal. With this, we will be able to continue our important work of improving opportunities for our ever-growing number of students.

Checking In with Justin Adames

We have recently checked in with Bronx Lacrosse alum, Justin Adames, who is wrapping up his first semester at Stony Brook University.

“When I arrived at Stony Brook, I wasn't sure what to expect because it didn't appear to be my type of environment. When I got to campus, I met many people with whom I share interests and who are from the same area as me. Although Stony Brook does not have as many students as other large schools, there is always something going on for the students on campus. My academic transition has been good because I surround myself with people who are as positive and motivated as I am. My classes are challenging, but nothing I can't handle. Most classes in college are lectures, so students don’t get one-on-one help from the professor, but there are resources on campus that help.”

Giving Tuesday 2022

Don’t forget to give back on GIVING TUESDAY (11/29) to support our #BronxLa25Challenge campaign. We’re asking donors to contribute the cost of one lacrosse stick ($25) and call on their networks to do the same.
