Bronx Lacrosse Recent Highlights

As we head into our spring season, here’s a look back at our recent fun-filled, in-person programming where our student-athletes improved their math skills, learned from some of the best lacrosse players and coaches in the world and had fun with their teammates. We also welcomed many new students to the Bronx Lacrosse family, growing from 150 to 200 participants. Read below for exciting highlights:

Academic Successes

Bronx Lacrosse student-athletes are thriving in the classroom. They worked hard all winter during bi-weekly tutoring sessions using our algebra-readiness program. Students improved an average 21.8 percentage points from their baseline to their midline assessments. Students have also mastered an average of five new math topics. This hard work has paid off at school, where the average GPA of a Bronx Lacrosse student-athlete is 85%.

New Partnerships

Earlier this year, Bronx Lacrosse entered into a powerful partnership with SCAN-Harbor—which means we’re now headquartered in the Mullaly Recreation Center (NYC Parks), with access to a gym, library, and other terrific resources for our participants. In addition, we are formalizing our college access services through a new partnership with College Access: Research and Action—a leader in facilitating college access among first-generation college students, low-income students, and students of color. This will be a game-changer for our participants.

Model Shift

We have redesigned our approach, shifting from solely school-based programming to a hybrid school-based and community-based model. By offering our services in the heart of the community at the Mullaly Recreation Center, we can now welcome students from over 20 different schools in the community.

Lacrosse All-Stars Visit the South Bronx

Some of the world’s best lacrosse players and coaches, including Team USA all-star Kylie Ohlmiller and PLL pro John Ranagan, have been out to practice to work with our players this winter. We even had the opportunity to learn from Coach Alberici, the Head Coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Bronx Lacrosse athletes love learning from the best players and coaches in the sport!

Fun Times with Teammates

Most importantly, throughout the winter, Bronx Lacrosse student-athletes had a lot of fun bonding with their teammates. Bronx Lacrosse hosted its first ever Movie Night, where Bronx Lacrosse students and families came to the Mullaly Recreation Center for a night filled with friends, pizza, and Spiderman. With access to a gym and other gathering spaces at the rec center, we have been able to host lacrosse practices and film sessions regardless of the weather. We know this will pay off on the field this spring!

Young Professionals Happy Hour

Please join Bronx Lacrosse for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the spectacular 48th floor at One Bryant Park for the opportunity to network and learn more about our mission and accomplishments over the past year. With your help, we can change the lives of students living in the South Bronx. We hope to see you there!
